Job Description
To operate a power-driven mobile hoist or forklift with a lifting capacity greater than 6,000 kg for the loading, unloading, moving, or stacking of goods and/or pallets, but not an internal motor vehicle, in accordance with predefined work objectives (as per agreed-upon standard operating procedures).
Requirements
- Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 equivalent.
- Valid Forklift Operator’s License/Certificate.
- 2-3 years of forklift operator experience in a warehouse, logistics, or manufacturing setting.
- A solid understanding of warehouse operations and inventory transportation.
- Loud noises, severe temperatures, dust, and moving machinery and production equipment are all potential hazards.
- Physical fitness is required due to frequent lifting, bending, and standing.
- Ability and willingness to work overtime, including weekend shifts, when required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Forklift operation for efficient and safe transportation of raw materials, finished goods, and inventory.
- Inspection and filling of the forklift checklist prior to starting the shift.
- Loading/unloading trucks in a safe manner.
- Movement of the materials from one location to another within the facility.
- Storing and retrieving the products in the assigned locations of the warehouse.
Skills and Abilities Required
- Safety procedures when using forklifts.
- Procedures in warehouses and dispatch areas.
- Procedures for handling and controlling stock.
- Loading and unloading procedures.
- Requirements from the Health and Safety Act.
- Basic checking and maintenance procedures.
- Ability to interpret delivery notes, picking tickets, and stock documentation.
- Communication and team skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Organization and time management skills.
- Fast-paced work environment with tight deadlines for production and dispatch.
