Job Summary

The Hostess at Catalyst Hotel is the first point of contact for visitors in the restaurant and dining areas, guaranteeing a pleasant greeting and a smooth seated experience. This person is responsible for generating a pleasant first impression, organizing reservations, coordinating visitor flow, and assisting service teams to offer exceptional guest experiences in accordance with Catalyst Hotel’s service standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Welcome all visitors in a professional, friendly, and courteous manner.
  • The hotel’s reservation system allows you to efficiently manage guest reservations.
  • Lead visitors to their tables and offer menus.
  • Balance service flow by ensuring ideal seating configurations.
  • Respond to guest inquiries, requests, and complaints immediately and professionally.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the service team about table status and guest needs.
  • Keep an accurate and up-to-date reservation diary.
  • Monitor restaurant occupancy and waitlists.
  • Keep the host stand and reception area clean and presentable at all times.
  • Assist with service during peak hours as needed.
  • Communicate VIP arrivals and special events to the service team.
  • Support the restaurant’s opening and closing processes.
  • Keep track of guest preferences and feedback, where applicable.
  • Coordinate group reservations and unique eating arrangements.
  • Ensure that all guest information is treated confidentially.
  • Complete daily reports as requested by management.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or comparable qualification.
  • Previous experience as a hostess, front-of-house, or guest relations representative in the hospitality industry desirable.
  • Experience in a hotel or high-end restaurant is advantageous.
  • Proficient in English (other languages are advantageous).
  • Basic computer literacy and familiarity with reservation systems preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Professional presentation and grooming.
  • Ability to stay cool under pressure
