Job Description

The Thatchfield Dispensary Support position at Dis-Chem Pharmacies is now open. The primary goal is to hire students who can successfully complete the learner basic pharmacy assistant course. This course will help learners comprehend the fundamental concepts of all important areas connected to the pharmaceutical environment and dispensing, as well as promote the concept of excellent on-the-job learning. Staff will be engaged on a fixed-term basis as Dispensary Support until they are registered with the SAPC as learner basic assistants. Permanent employment will be granted only after completion of the basic pharmacist assistant training program.

Job Specification

Dispensary Support personnel must pass a competence exam before applying for registration as a learner basic assistant with the Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
A pharmacist’s assistant registered in the category pharmacist’s assistant learner basic, may undertake the following services or activities under the direct personal supervision of a pharmacist in a pharmacy.

  • The selling of medications or substances classified as Schedule 1.
  • Assist in the compounding, modification, or preparation of a non-sterile drug or scheduled substance using a formula and Standard Operating Procedures approved by the competent pharmacist.
  • Assist with unpacking and marketing goods, as well as cleaning dispensary and OTC shelves as permitted by the competent pharmacist.
  • Any additional tasks allocated to them by the Dispensary Manager.
  • Learn to properly understand prescriptions and act professionally and responsibly while adhering to legal criteria set by the South African Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Ensure that medicine is picked, packed, labeled, and checked accurately, and that you are aware of typical doses and essential drug interactions.
  • Make sure that all drugs are examined for correctness and signed by a pharmacist.
  • Assist with stock control (manage shelf cleanliness and packaging, as well as pharmaceutical expiry dates) for Schedules 1 through 5.
  • Follow up with patients on the script tracking report, as asked by the dispensary manager, and schedule follow-up visits.
  • Assist with call center scripts and patient care phone calls.
  • Provide folks with information to promote their health.
  • Assist with scheme authorization for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications.
  • Report low / out of stock levels and stock mistakes to the dispensary manager.
  • Receive dispensary stock in line with the company’s standard operating procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 – Matric or Senior Certificate Pure Mathematics 50%, Life Science, and or Physical Science and got at least a 50% average.
