Job Description
The Western Cape Mobility Department will be recruiting traffic students to complete a Further Education and Training Certificate: Road Traffic Law Enforcement on a bursary basis. This is a twelve (12) month training course that will begin on June 8, 2026 at Gene Louw College (GLTC), Brackenfell.
The following traffic centers exist: Worcester, Laingsburg, Beaufort West, Oudtshoorn, Somerset West, Brackenfell, Vredenburg, Vredendal, Knysna, Mosselbay, Calledon, Swellendam, and George.
Basic Requirements
- rade 12 (Senior Certificate or Equivalent Qualification)
- Valid motor vehicle license (manual) code B.
- Pregnant applicants will not be considered for physical work during recruiting, and future training may pose a harm to the unborn child and/or mother.
- Visible tattoos and body piercings (save for females with one piercing in each ear) will reject an application since they will not compliment uniformity in a uniform wearing setting.
- No criminal record.
- All potential shortlisted candidates must submit a medical certificate stating that they can be subjected to strenuous physical exercise.
- The medical certificate must include the result of a pregnancy test and that they are free of drugs.
- Potential shortlisted candidates may be required to take a psychometric test.
- Prior to admission, successful candidates will be subjected to a comprehensive medical, psychological, and drug screening at a provincial testing center.
- Physical fitness, driving and writing tests, and an interview.
- SAPS will cleanse criminal records using fingerprints or identity numbers.
- Throughout the course, you will be tested for fitness and drugs on a continuous basis.
- Well-versed in the native language of the majority of population in the region where the selected candidates will be appointed.
- Anyone above the age of 35 is ineligible to apply.
Additional requirements
- Willing to work shifts.
- Able to speak in at least two official Western Cape languages.
- Willing to move if necessary.
Missing even one condition may result in disqualification.

Key Performance Areas
- Enforce road traffic, public passenger, and transportation laws; provide visible traffic control/policing; and promote/ensure crime prevention operations.
- Perform all administrative and associated tasks.
- Adherence to the terms and conditions of the agreed 12-month contract throughout the training program, which includes actual deployment on a 24/7 shift system as needed.

Remuneration
Remuneration: A training stipend of R 5 000.00 per month will be provided monthly throughout the training session.(This excludes food and accommodations.)
